CINCINNATI, Ohio Angenette Levy -- A grand jury indicts a Cincinnati Police officer on charges he received nude photos of a teenager and set up a fake police substation in a West Price Hill Apartment. Darrell Beavers is on unpaid leave from the police department now that he's facing six felony charges including theft in office, tampering with evidence and four counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material. The grand jury indicted beavers Monday morning. He was booked in the Hamilton County Justice Center and released on his own recognizance. The Hamilton County prosecutor says Beavers set up an apartment on Bushnell Street in West Price Hill to look like a police substation but it was anything but. Police searched the apartment after a 17 year old police explorer's father became concerned about her daughter's experiences with him. They found several items including a bed, personal lubricants and videos. Beavers is accused of receiving nude photos of the 17 year old girl. He's charged with theft in office for using his position as a police officer to get the apartment rent free. He's also accused of destroying his cell phone when he found out he was being investigated. Local 12 spoke with Darrell Beavers' attorney.Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters released the following statement: A police officer commands, and should command, the respect of the entire community. When an individual police officer betrays that trust, it devastates the entire community which is why the Cincinnati Police Department and my office place the highest priority on these types of cases and will not tolerate this behavior. Beavers is expected to be arraigned later this week or early next. If convicted of all charges, Beavers faces the possibility of eight and a half years in prison. Beavers has been a police officer since 2001. His personnel file contains commendations for his professional ism.
